"Baukultur made in Germany" – this is the motto under which the German Federal Chamber of Architects (BAK – Bundesarchitektenkammer) presents the German contribution to the 9th São Paulo International Architecture Biennial.
Twenty projects, both from within Germany and abroad, realised by German architects and engineers were selected to demonstrate the high quality of German planning with regards to building culture, urban development and, last but not least, engineering and technology.
In March 2011, the BAK had invited German construction planners to participate in the selection process. 140 architectural and engineering firms from all fields of expertise had submitted their projects. From these, a blue ribbon expert jury has selected those 20 projects which are to represent Germany at the Biennial.
In addition to the international relevance of the projects, the selection criteria were focused in particular on eminent examples of sustainable building as well as on uniquely country and climate specific solutions. After all, the time we live in today demands that we meet the requirements and challenges of our dynamically changing world. New solutions are called for that render our cities and landscapes liveable and embrace the postulate of sustainability as regards ecology, economy and socio-cultural aspects.
